The International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) has released a position stand highlighting the benefits of essential amino acid (EAA) supplementation for exercise and performance. Drawing on numerous studies, they conclude that EAAs (especially in free-form) not only stimulate muscle protein synthesis more rapidly than certain intact protein sources (e.g., whey isolates) but also support greater gains in muscle mass, reduce muscle damage, and enhance recovery—particularly in older or clinical populations.
The paper underscores that EAAs are safe, easily absorbed, and most effective when combined with exercise, due to an interactive effect in which activity-driven blood flow boosts EAA delivery to working muscles.

Faster Muscle Growth
Free-form EAAs stimulate muscle protein synthesis more effectively than some complete protein sources
Superior Recovery
Helps reduce exercise-induced muscle damage and shorten downtime
Ideal for All Ages
Proven safe and particularly beneficial in older or clinical populations with muscle weakness
Synergistic with Exercise
